When Denis was young, life could have easily gone a very different direction.
After being abandoned by his parents, he was taken in and raised by his grandmother, a woman with limited means, but an unwavering belief that her grandson’s life could still become something meaningful.
That is when the Gordon Oloowere Foundation (GOW) stepped in.
Through financial support and ongoing mentorship, Denis was able to remain in school and continue pursuing his education with stability and hope. He became one of the top-performing students in his school.
Denis later pursued a degree in Industrial Chemical Engineering and became the first person in his family to graduate from college.
At his graduation, his grandmother watched with tears in her eyes, not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy, relief, and pride.
Today, Denis works in a mine while waiting for the opportunity to fully enter the engineering career he trained for.
His story reminds us that success is not always measured by how quickly opportunity arrives, but by the barriers that were overcome to reach it.
One opportunity gave Denis a future. One graduation gave his grandmother hope fulfilled.
